What is “Sharjah, Golden Literature?

On the occasion of naming Sharjah City World Book Capital 2019, and within its celebrations of this important Arabic and world achievement, “Sharjah, Golden literature” provides those interested around the world selections of new voices in modern Arabic Literature (in short stories, poetry and novels), highlighting major emerging literary names in the Arabic cultural scene. Accordingly, all writers are free to apply to compete for the participation in “Sharjah, Golden literature”. Nominees from each Arab country will be presented to a panel of selected critics from these countries.

Requirements for participating in “Sharjah, Golden Literature”

  • The writer must be an Arab writing in standard Arabic
  • Is born in 1980 and thereafter.
  • Has at least one published book.

How to participate?

Required files will be sent in one email with the writer’s triple name and home country (e. g.: Saad Ahmed Al Sheikh-Syria) to the email address ( by (1st of July):

  • The file containing the literary works submitted for the book (MS Word, Font size 14, Font Arial, maximum number of words 5,000).
  • A copy of passport.
  • A synopsis about the writer (date and place of birth, occupation and residence, literary publications, awards and nominations).
  • A high quality appropriate personal photo for publication.

The writer will be notified by email that his participation is received.
The full list of participants will be posted online on (15th of September).

By sending the email to participate in “Sharjah, Golden literature;, the writer authorizes “Sharjah World Book Capital 2019” team to use the sent filed for the purposes of the book “Sharjah, Golden literature” through publishing and printing as they deem appropriate, according to recognized principles in literary festivals and the book industry, with reference to the writer and maintaining the writer’s literary rights.
